PETE ROTH TRIO FEATURING BILL BRUFORD

Jazz

Modern jazz fusion takes centre stage as the Pete Roth Trio arrives at Club Soda on Friday, May 29th. This highly anticipated performance features a rare appearance by one of the most influential drummers in music history, the legendary Bill Bruford

The trio, which includes Pete on guitar, Stefan Redtenbacher (who will replace Mike Pratt) on bass, and Bruford on drums, offers a near-jazz experience that is intimate, improvised, and deeply interactive. The music unfolds as a conversation between players and audience, where every performance becomes a unique exploration of sound, texture, and connection.

The trio will explore compositions from their acclaimed repertoire, offering a soundscape that is as intellectually stimulating as it is emotionally resonant.

About the Artists

Pete Roth (Guitar)

Pete Roth is a guitarist and composer known for his distinctive approach to the instrument, blending classical discipline with the freedom of jazz improvisation. His work often explores the "vocal" quality of the guitar, focusing on melody and phrasing while pushing the boundaries of traditional trio arrangements. As the leader of the trio, Roth has garnered international acclaim for his ability to bridge the gap between complex technicality and accessible, lyrical storytelling.

Bill Bruford (Drums)

A true icon of the percussion world, Bill Bruford’s career spans the heights of progressive rock and contemporary jazz. As the original drummer for Yes and a long-time member of King Crimson, Bruford redefined the role of the drum kit. After retiring from public performance for several years, his collaboration with the Pete Roth Trio marks a significant return to the stage. Bruford brings his signature "linear" drumming style and polyrhythmic mastery to the ensemble, providing a rhythmic foundation that is unparalleled in its precision.

Stefan Redtenbacher (Bass)

Redtenbacher is a highly accomplished bassist, educator, and composer, who brings a powerhouse funk and jazz sensibility. Stepping in for Mike Pratt, he is well-prepared for the "unruly" and unscripted nature of this trio. Stefan is best known as the leader of Redtenbacher’s Funkestra, a multi-national funk ensemble that has collaborated with legends like Fred Wesley and Pee Wee Ellis (of James Brown's band), as well as members of Prince's horn section and Incognito. He has also recorded or performed with a massive range of icons, including Steve WinwoodJack BruceAmy Winehouse and Herb Alpert.
